Happy Retirement

Tomorrow, June 1st, Stampin' Up! is releasing its list of retiring stamp sets to make room for new goodies in the new Idea Book & Catalog coming out July 1st. Also retiring is one of my relatives but the only stamp set I have related to retirement is retired itself! So I dusted off "Congrats" from Sale-a-Bration earlier this year. I wanted to create something kind of organic-looking so I opted for the bamboo image from "Embrace Life" and stuck with a monochromatic theme of Mellow Moss and Old Olive.

I originally started with a very subtle tone-on-tone look using Old Olive ink for the bamboo and sentiment, but then decided that white embossing would really make it pop! Hope you like it and, more importantly, I hope Claire likes it!

Graduation card

I found a fabulous graduation card posted on Splitcoaststampers by Melany Watson and immediately knew that I had to CASE it! I'm attending a graduation party today for a neighbor and used our local high school colors for his card. I really like how it turned out!!

The bottom strip was run through my paper crimper and then punched to create a star border.

Single Color Challenge

Here's a fun challenge for you: select one color and build a card using only that color. With this challenge, I wanted to show that it's possible to create something with very limited supplies - perfect for new stampers.


I started with a cardbase of Baja Breeze and added a strip of Urban Oasis designer series paper (DSP) with a Baja Breeze pattern. This particular piece of DSP has the floral images from the Fifth Avenue Florals in a tone-on-tone effect. To add more dimension, I stamped the large rose from that stamp set with Baja Breeze ink. Then I took a small strip of Baja Breeze cardstock and covered it with Baja Breeze ink using a brayer to create a deeper shade of the same color. I added a single line of piercing and a simple sentiment, also in Baja Breeze. Finally, I stamped another rose image with Baja Breeze at the bottom by stamping off once on scrap paper so the intensity of the color is a shade lighter.

How could I forget??

I'm hanging my head in shame today....I let the 35th anniversary of me and my best friend Natalie pass me by. And not by a day or two. Oh no, my slip-up is much worse. Try an entire month!

We met back in 1974 when I moved to Carmel, Indiana. She lived only 2 doors down and I remember seeing her sitting on her bicycle in the cul-de-sac as we were unpacking. It was an instant friendship and has sustained despite being in different states for the last 13 years. I made this card to send to her:


The color combo comes from our favorite colors - blue and pink. I used rub ons for the sentiment, layered several punches, and added heat embossing to round it out. I sure hope she likes it!

Support the troops!

While blog surfing I stumbled upon a blog hop for cardsforheroes.org. What a wonderful organization! Their mission is to support our nation's armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them. As a card maker, this obviously grabbed my attention right away. So this afternoon, I sat down and sorted through my huge stash of handmade cards to find appropriate ones to send along to the troops. Before I knew it, I had 80 cards to share!!

I can't wait to get these in the mail once the post offices open back up on Tuesday! If you have any extra cards or want to create new ones for Cards for Heroes, I encourage you to package them up and submit them. Not only will the service men and women appreciate your gesture, but their loved ones at home will be so happy to receive a hand-written note from their hero! It's a win-win, perfect for this Memorial Day holiday!

Faux pinwheel

Stumbled across another fabulous technique....this time on Lyssa Griffin Zwolanek's blog. Her rendition of a pinwheel is so cute and whimsical. I thought it was the perfect technique to showcase the bright and cheery colors and patterns on the Good Morning Sunshine designer series paper.
